Empathy is a virtual jukebox. Using the free companion program, EMPRIP, it allows you to extract your audio CDs to MP3 format and manages them not as files but as entire albums. It then allows you to access your music using a simple yet powerful interface that is as close to a Jukebox as we think you can get. You can compile play lists or create random ones, view your album covers, print a catalogue of your music collection and much, much more. Empathy is for those who want to manage a modest to large amount of music on their computer for the sole purpose of enjoying that music. User Interface Empathy features several different interfaces to allow the easiest access to your stored music files. These are:- CD Player Mode Allows the user to select albums as though loading a CD into a player and similar in interface to most popular CD player applications. It differs by allowing you to switch between all your albums in an instant (faster than a CD changer!). If you want to listen to a specific album this is the way to go. View the album cover with a single click. Play-list Mode Allows the user to compile play lists of individual tracks from across their entire music collection. Select an album and track and click to add to the list. If you want to pick a list of specific tracks this gives you the freedom to do so. Optionally full-screen view the album cover for the current track as the track changes. Random Play-list Allows the user to compile a random play-list from either the entire collection or from a selected list of albums. If you want to listen to good music without the hassle of choosing then you are there in a few clicks. Jukebox Simulator Mode This mode simulates a classic jukebox (like a bar or pub jukebox), allowing the user to browse through album covers and pick tracks using the oldest and the easiest method. Album Information and Filtering You can optionally take the time to input information about your albums including Genre, Artist type, Date and Record label among others. If this information is stored then Empathy can filter the list of available albums to only include those that fit the criteria you select. If you are feeling blue, then Empathy won't try to cheer you up unless you want it to. Empathy also lets you store additional artwork from the album; this can be from a scanner, from the internet or from any picture file. Use of the alum information database is optional. Extracting your music from your CDs Empathy allows you to use a "CD Ripper" to extract music from your CD's and add them as MP3 files to your music collection. EMPRIP is a free program available from the Empathy website which not only imports music from your CD's to your collection, but allows you to add the album cover images, download the track listings from the internet and modify them if necessary. Other "CD Ripping" programs made be used if desired. Empathy makes use of the windows file system to store its albums in a logical folder format. Each album has its own album folder which comprises of the artist and album name. This makes manual editing extremely simple. MP3 tracks are stored in each folder and sequentially named (eg. Track01.mp3 Track02.mp3 etc.). A simple text file ("info.dat") in each folder provides the names of each track. This retains the order of the tracks on the original CD. Empathy fully supports the editing of track information from within the program. More about the Empathy file system Compile you own Audio CDs from your collection Empathy lets you compile a play list from your music collection and either stores the tracks in audio format in a folder ready to write to CD-R/CD-RW using your favourite CD-R writing software, or directly writes them to CD-R/CD-RW using Windows integrated CD Burning*.
